Young people suffer from the direct or indirect effects of violence in their whanau/families.

Sometimes the needs of young people can be overlooked because we expect them to tell us if they're sad or hurt or angry. They may also have different needs to adults and children.
We need to be extra careful about making sure young people are safe, listened to and supported.

Young people have the right to be informed about the issues that effect them, to have their say, to give their consent, have their information kept confidential, and be told if there are any limits to that confidentiality.

Young people have the same rights as children in that they have a right to:
• Live in a safe domestic environment, free from violence
• Be treated fairly and with respect
• Live with people who care about them
• Education
• Be safe at home and school
• Be protected from harm and abuse
