Donate material goods

Women's Refuges are keen to take donations of material goods. They are always looking for good quality furniture, clothing, bedding, general household items and books for the children. These items are expensive for Women's Refuges to buy and all are grateful for contributions of this kind.

Help with collecting during Street Appeal

Refuges around the country always need help collecting during Appeal Week. You can donate a couple of hours to collect in town, or offer to have a collection box in your business or workplace.

Volunteer at a local Refuge

The gift of your time is one of the most valuable donations you can make. Most Women's Refuge advocates in Aotearoa are volunteers and are extremely welcome! Just a few hours per week can make an enormous difference to your local Refuge.

Are you interested in:
• Supporting women to empower themselves
• Working collectively to promote safety and non-violence for all women and children
• The opportunity to work within a bi-cultural model
• Providing non-judgemental support and advocacy for women and children of diverse cultures, backgrounds, sexual identities, socio-economic groups, and abilities.

If so, Women's Refuge needs you to help us achieve our vision of violence-free communities/hapu.

Each year Women's Refuge helps thousands of women and children at 51 safe houses throughout the country. Women's Refuge works to provide services that will break the cycle of violence. Over 70% of the workers at Women's Refuge are volunteers. We always need more volunteers to help us continue the important work we do with women and children who have experienced family violence.

If you would like to be part of our vision for safer non-violent communities, then, contact your local Women's Refuge about the next training course they are offering. Women's Refuges provide a full initial training course for all new volunteers, and there is regular on-going training, support and supervision once you start work with the Refuge. We need people who are:
• Able to listen
• Non-judgemental
• Keen to learn
• Support women and children's rights
• Able to make a regular time commitment
