2004 Annual Appeal

This year's Appeal focuses on the 6000 women and children who leave their homes because they are fearful for their safety and their lives. They often arrive at Women's Refuge safe-houses with nothing or very few of their personal possessions. Refuges provide them with accommodation, food and all the support services they need to be able to get away from the violence.

2003 Annual Appeal

The voices of real women have provided the focus of the Women's Refuge 2003 Annual Appeal. Saatchi & Saatchi have taken stories by Domestic Abuse survivors and presented them in printed media and as a television advertisement. The strength and courage of women like Kelly and Rebecca have helped us to present the personal impact of domestic violence. These women are just two of the many Women’s Refuge has helped over the past thirty years to start new lives free from fear and violence. Women's Refuge are thrilled to have the support of Saatchi & Saatchis' creative innovation in bringing these stories to the public. Our warmest gratitude to the team at Saatchi & Saatchi and, of course, to the women like Kelly and Rebecca who are the reason Women's Refuge remains committed to the work they have undertaken with such enthusiasm and which is still desperately needed by so many.

2002 Annual Appeal

This year the Annual Appeal focused on asking the question “How visible does domestic violence have to be before we do something about it?” The Appeal was launched by women volunteering to wear visible bruises, applied by professional make-up artists, to work. The idea was to raise awareness and promote discussion about family violence, and to see how the women would experience the stigma of visible violence. One woman reported that she “felt like a battered woman … ashamed, embarrassed and tender.” Even though it was only make-up, the women felt the shaming looks as they walked down the street. We extend a huge thank you to Saatchi & Saatchi for their fabulous creative support. And we also thank Starbucks who hosted our launch and let their staff collect for us during the Street Appeal.

2001 Annual Appeal

2001 saw a fabulous award-winning campaign designed for Women’s Refuge by Saatchi & Saatchi. This years theme was “Fight Domestic Violence” and put out a ‘call to action’ to the public. The campaign used images of women with bruises on their faces to shock people into thinking about family violence. Instead of ignoring the issue, it is time to bring it out into the open and fight hard to stop it. The theme pushed the idea that we all need to take real action to family violence.
